FAQs

Q?

What does “one standard page” mean?

A.

Such unit of measure as “1 standard page” is used when determining the volume and cost of translation. One standard page is an A4 page, which contains 1800 characters (with spaces) for the following printing options in the Microsoft Word text editor: font – Times New Roman; font size – 14; line spacing – 1.5; page margins – standard (by default). With this set of options, a standard page consists of 30 rows with 60 characters in each row.

Q?

How can I calculate the cost of translation?

A.

For a preliminary calculation of the cost of translation, you need to determine the size of material to be translated.
To do this, in the Proofing section of Microsoft Word, click Word Count. Divide the number of characters with spaces displayed by 1800 and round the result to the nearest tenth.
In this way, you get the size of the material to be translated in standard pages (the term “standard page” is described in question number 1). You then multiply the size with our rates given by our managers.

Q?

I have a document with many repetitions. Can I have a discount?

A.

We don’t think it’s fair that you should pay the same rate to have something translated several times when we have already charged you the standard rate to have it translated once. We will give you a discount based on the amount of repetitions throughout the document, providing the total price exceeds our minimum charge threshold.

Q?

I have a document that I translated myself and I would like to pay Translation Center to certify it for me. Can you do this, and how much does it cost?

A.

To certify a document is to vouch for its contents. We cannot certify translations performed by non-Translation Center translators and personnel without proofing the translation against the source.

Q?

What are your standard turnaround times? Can you do RUSH projects?

A.

Turnaround time depends on the size of the project (e.g., number of languages, word count, etc) and the formatting time needed.

Our standard turnaround time is as follows (not including formatting time):

Under 9,000-18,000 characters (with spaces) - 1 business day

Q?

Why is apostilling necessary?

A.

Apostilling is necessary if you are required to prove the authenticity of a document issued in Russia in a foreign state. Only official documents are verified with an apostil, for example, documents issued by a notary. Private documents so not require such certification. Apostilling is provided at the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education and Research, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Social Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. One should also note that documents verified with an apostil are only valid in those countries that have adopted the Hague Apostille Convention. If a document is to be used in a country that is not party to the Apostille Convention, the document is subject to a legalisation process, during which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs certifies the authenticity of the document and the same must be done at an equivalent institution of the foreign state.
